“Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth. The fear and the dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands. Everything that moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it.” Genesis 9:1-4
Do you recognize these verses? Just as God commanded Adam and Eve when they were created to be fruitful and increase in number, and then instructed them in what to eat [Genesis 1:28-30], so here God does the exact same thing with Noah and his family.
This is a new creation.
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new [2 Corinthians 5:17, KJV].
By God’s grace, Noah’s faith saved him on the ark–a picture of Christ. Sin was judged, the earth destroyed, and only the man named peace–who was found righteous not by his own works, but the work of God in Him–and his household were saved to start again.
But there is one difference. Where in the first Creation animals and man were vegetarian, now they became predator and prey. Animals feared humans who would hunt them for food, and they became capable of instinctually tearing one another apart for meat as well.
Death still reigned in the post-flood new creation.
And because of this, God expressly prohibited man from eating meat with blood still in it [and therefore not to consume any blood in any way for any reason]. Why? Blood is our life [Leviticus 17:11]. If you drain the blood of any living being, though every other part of the body is perfectly strong and healthy, that life is gone–that creature dead.
Sin brings death [James 1:15]. Adam and Eve’s sin brought death to all humankind [Romans 5:12]. But drinking blood doesn’t restore life. Only the blood of Jesus can restore everlasting life to our beings, and this not by consumption.
Throughout world history, Satanic cults and pagan religions have often bought into the perverted lie that there is something powerful about drinking mortal blood. It’s a lie from the pit of hell. A flagrant perversion of God’s truth that we have new life by the blood of Jesus alone [1 Corinthians 15:22].
We are once again living in Noah’s day [Matthew 24:37-38]. Sin will be judged, and the earth destroyed. But, by God’s grace, we can be saved through faith in Jesus Christ [John 3:16]–we can be found righteous–not by anything that we have done–but by Jesus’ atoning blood in our lives.
Are you a new Creation? Have you allowed your old man to pass away so that you can be made new in Christ?
